Poinsettia (in-the-round) | Crochet Pattern | Revised

Happy December 1st!

Have you been seeing all the unusual colored poinsettias lately?

In the past, in addition to the classic red,
I have seen blush and cream, but this year I'm seeing peach, pink,
and even a deeper coral/orange color.
I'm in love with this twist on the traditional colors,
although red will always be near and dear to my heart!

 πŸ€πŸŒΏπŸ€

 πŸ€πŸŒΏπŸ€

In celebration of these trending colors, I have revisited
and updated the"Poinsettia in-the-Round" crochet pattern
and worked up these new blooms in Scheepjes Catona
which is a 100% mercerized cotton in a fingering weight.
See below for yarn link!

A few of them have even been sprinkled with glue and "snow."

What do you think of these colors?
Do you like the traditional colors or do you like these trending colors?
🌿🀍🌿🧑🌿🀍🌿

The updated pattern is available in the Apple Blossom Dreams shops
by clicking on the following shops:

Here are some of the Scheepjes Catona colors I used:

Colors listed in this order:
Petals, Leaves, Stamen

You can order a box of the Scheepjes Catona little cuties (109 of them!)
and you'll have every color,
 from *Amazon by clicking here.
If you are in the US, you will receive your yarn quickly.

I had enough yarn to crochet two sets of petals
and four sets of leaves from one little cutie.

Holiday crochet is in full force now!

Thomas Blanket | Crochet Project | Something Different

Hello! I'm back from a Southern Utah and Southern California camping adventure
with spotty cell service; hence the lack of activity here.

An amazing trip, but it is good to be back home.

Camping is always good for some happy hooky time though,
so here's a preview of camping crochet and the story behind it:

The story began last February when our 7-year-old grandaughter (Phoebe)
and 9-year-old grandson (Thomas) came for a winter wonderland visit.

Actually, the story may have begun seven years ago
when I made this Granny Rose Blanket for Phoebe before she was born.
She still has it! Warms my heart.

You can find the instantly downloadable pattern for the Granny Rose Blanket
by clicking on the following shops:

Okay, on with the story...
During the visit, Thomas asked if I would make him a blanket, too.
Can you imagine my joy at such a request?

I had no idea what to make as most of my patterns are flowers, so I thought I would start with colors and go from there.
I asked him to pick colors from my stash and these are the colors he chose:

Stylecraft Special DK in Aster, Lavender, Bluebell, Proper Purple, Lapis, and Violet
paired with Lion Brand Jeans Stone Washed yarn as the MC,
although I think Stylecraft Special DK in Waterfall for MC would be good too.

Fiddling and playing with this yarn for a design that was completely different
then my regular M.O. (method of operation) was fun but challenging.
Eventually, I got it!

Now to write the pattern...

I'm curious...what is your M.O.?
Do you stick with the same thing that you love or are you comfortable venturing out?

Thanks for stopping by and I hope this brings you some

Warmly,

Astri Elisabeth

Sunnyside Up Afghan | Crochet Pattern | Released and Available

Yay!
The "Sunnyside Up Afghan"
pattern is now available!

You can find it by clicking on
the following Apple Blossom Dreams shop links:

The featured blanket is made with Stylecraft Special DK (a DK weight 100% acrylic yarn).
(A similar yarn of the same weight could be used, but please note that a worsted or aran
weight may be too heavy to fit some of the stitches into some of the small spaces.)
You'll need one skein of each color and 2 skeins of White or Cream.

20 sets of four motifs in vibrant colors are included in the pattern,
primarily using shades of green (Pistachio, Lime, and Sage) for the leaves.
Trimmed in DC row of White.
The afghan measures: 55" x 72" (137 cm x 184 cm)

Here it is with a simple border:
It's a flower explosion!

Thanks for stopping by and I hope this brings you some

Sunnyside Up Afghan | Border Added | Pattern Release Fall of 2023

  Hello friends!
This is the
"Sunnyside Up Afghan"
now with a border!
This border is similar (but not exactly like) the
"La Vie en Rose" border that is available by
clicking on the following shops:

Being the savvy crocheter that you may be, perhaps the La Vie en Rose
border pattern along with one of the below-listed patterns,
and the following instructions will assist you in making it
before the pattern is released?

We are going to be in Norway and the UK for an extended period of time.

While away from the studio I can crochet and design a bit; however,
since we are basically nomadic backpackers, I am unable to write patterns.

So...a long story short, this pattern will likely not be ready until late 2023 or early 2024,
but in the meantime, below are directions on how a savvy crocheter like yourself
might be able to make it before next year.

First, you will need one of the following patterns for the motif:
(These patterns all use the same motif.)
These are the Etsy links, but these patterns can also be found in the
Apple Blossom Dreams shops on Ravelry and Lovecrafts
(Blossom Dreams / Astri Elisabeth Designs on Ravelry).

Use Stylecraft Special DK (a DK weight 100% acrylic yarn).
(A similar yarn of the same weight could be used, but please note that a worsted or aran
weight may be too heavy to fit some of the stitches into some of the small spaces.)
You'll need one skein of each color and 2 skeins of White or Cream.

Make 20 sets of four motifs randomly mixing up the colors in the below diagram
for the blossoms and first granny row.
Primarily use shades of green (Pistachio, Lime, and Sage) for the leaves.

Each set of four motifs will have the same color for the last two granny rows,
the SC join, and an extra DC row around each set of four squares as per the following chart:

SC join                                                DC around

Trimmed in DC row of White.

Then join all the finished "Four Squares" with a sc join in White or Cream.
For a simple border, add a row of DC in White or Cream all around the afghan.

In the corners always place (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc).

Here are the colors and placement:

The afghan measures: 48" x 59" (120 cm x 150 cm)

It really is a flower explosion!

I like it without the border too...
Whew, I hope this general information is helpful,
and brings you some

Warmly,

Astri Elisabeth
