Charming Norsk Town, Shop and Needlework

While traveling through Norway, in May, we happened across
the most charming town called Elnesvågen with the most charming second-hand store
with the most charming staff and stuff. :-)
That's where I found this:
I found a few other items but those will be for future posts.
This favorite of mine, deserves a post of it's own, you see...
this little storehouse is called a "stabbur".
I love them, I can't get enough of them.
In fact, a "stabbur" has been incorporated into my banner as a birdhouse. :-)

Elnesvågen is not far from where my mother lives in Bud.
We patronized this shop in Elnesvågen together, where
the staff was absolutely delightful.
It is a warm and wonderful memory of our trip!

Somebody spent countless hours making this and I am so happy that I could give it a second home.
The stabbur needlepoint did not come in this frame.
The needlepoint was in a mid-century wood frame, that would not fit in my suitcase,
so we removed it and rolled it up for the flight back home.
Upon our return to the States, the NVO and I framed it with
a $9 frame from Taipan Trading and a little decorative wood moulding.
Gotta' love those bargains!

Now it hangs front and center above our fireplace:
and coordinates with our decor:

Oh and here it is with a blue orchid:

Yes, I know this was random, but I love this blue orchid
and believe it or not, it's real!

Ha en fin dag!!!

  1. So typical Norwegian, this Stabbur. I am glad you had a nice time in Elnesvågen, someday we might live there.
This blue Orchid of yours will be blue just the first time, when it comes with flowers the next time, they will be white.
    Have a nice day.

    1. Perhaps we will both live there. ;-) Oh yes, that is what I understand...only blue until it blossoms again. (I hope I can keep it alive that long. ;-) )

    1. It's not particularly rare, I think they feed it blue water or something. Monica is right the new blossoms will be white. :-) Thanks for stopping by!

  12. Your home is so beautiful Astri!!! Really, I mean that, it is just beautiful. The tapestry is beautiful as well, I have a book about all sorts of wooden houses and some of those shown are similar to those in this tapestry and I have always been fascinated by them, so I would definitely have bought this too if I had happened upon it. A wonderful find that is right at home in your beautiful home! xx
