Chevron Infinity Scarf in HDC - Pattern and Tutorial

Want to make a
Chevron Infinity Scarf?

Here's how:

Gather supplies:
(I added some light blue and cream after I took the yarn photo.)

Here's the pattern:

ch 49

Row 1: hdc in 3rd ch from hook, skip next ch, hdc in next 10 chs, 3 hdc in next ch, hdc in next 10 chs, skip 1 ch, hdc in next 10 chs, 3 hdc in next ch, hdc in next 10 chs, skip 1 ch, hdc in last ch. ch 1, turn
Row 2: and rest of rows:  hdc in 2nd st from hook, skip next st, hdc in next 10 sts, 3 hdc in next st, hdc in next 10 sts, skip 2 sts, hdc in next 10 sts, 3 hdc in next st, hdc in next 10 sts, skip 1 st, hdc in last st, ch 1, turn

and here is the pattern in photos:
ch 49

ROW 1:

hdc in 3rd ch from hook
(the photo shows 2nd ch from hook in error)

skip 1 ch and hdc in next 10 chs

 3 hdc in next ch

 hdc in next 10 chs

skip 1 ch and hdc in next 11 ch

3 hdc in in next ch

10 hdc in next 10 chs, skip 1 ch, 1 hdc in last ch,

 ch 1 then turn

ROW 2:

 hdc in next ch

skip 1 st and hdc in next 10 sts

 3 hdc in next st

10 hdc in next 10 st

 skip 2 st

10 hdc in next 10 st

3 hdc in next st

skip 1 st

1 hdc in last st, ch 1 turn

repeat row 2 until desired length.

Looks likes this after second row,

and this after four rows

Here's a color change

At the end of the row, before the last hdc is complete,

slip new color through all three loops on hook.

 ch 1, turn

Here's a review of row 2 with the new color:

 hdc in first st

skip 1 st and 10 hdc

3 hdc in 1 st

then 3 10 hdc, skip 2 sts etc. as above

Keep on crocheting until desired length.
(You can use your neck to measure.)
I like the ones that can wrap around twice, best.
Then slip stitch the two ends together.
(I apologize, I forgot to take this photo with the pink scarf.)
It also helps if you end with the color you began with for a more hidden seam.

You can also twist the scarf before joining for a more rippled effect.

Have fun and keep warm in a crocheted scarf!

  5. Oh Thank you so much. I feel inspired and like I may actually be able to make this. I'm finishing up a braided scarf for my daughter and this is going to be my next project. I cannot wait. The photos are a huge help for me.

Approximately how many rows do you generally do?

    1. Hi Kim,
To wrap around twice depending on how loose or tight you crochet it would be approximately 49 rows, or whatever measures to about 45". Hope that helps!

    2. Oh shoot - I meant 49 rows to wrap around once. It's double that many...100 to wrap around twice but the 100 rows should be about 45".

  9. Pattern is beautifully clear Astri - thank you so much. And I just love the finished scarf in those pink & pastel shades. This may be my post-Christmas hooky project for those lovely post-Christmas days when the hustle & bustle subside! E x

  14. I agree with everyone, this is a very pretty pattern and your tutorial is great. As soon as I saw it I made sure to start it and i'm really enjoying making up. Unfortunately I have a lot of other things on the go too, so I can't finish it as quickly as I would like - can't wait to wear it. Thank you so much!

  18. Hi this is so pretty, i have been looking and looking for the right scarf and i finally found it. My question is what kind/brand of yarn is this? I see someone in their post called it Cascade, but i can't quite make it out from the photo and i have some Vanna's Choice yarn at home and wonder if that would work instead. Wondering how thick/heavy the yarn is. Thanks so much, i can hardly wait to get started on this!

    1. Hi Happy Niteowl! I used a dk or sport weight, but the other scarf pictured is worsted and some of the colors may be the Vanna's choice. :-) I think any worsted weight would be nice.

  21. THANK YOU SO MUCH, I love the scarf. Your pattern seems easy and with the pictures I can see that what I've done is right our needs to be redone. My mom taught me to crochet 40+ yrs ago & I made a granny square baby blanket, then 21 yrs later I made another one for my first grandaughter. I haven't done anything else in the 19 yrs since. Recently I decided I wanted to pick it up again but I never learned to read patterns and my mom is gone so I have no one to ask and ALL the patterns I find are too difficult for me to figure out. This one is fantastic especially with the pictures as visual aids...

I have bookmarked your page and hope to create lots more projects with your assistance. One question I have is how much yarn does this project require?

  24. Pretty! Just started in on this- should it be in the 3rd chain from hook after making the foundation? not 2nd? because I have an extra chain at the end, then, if I use the 2nd from hook.

    1. Honestly it's been so many years I don't really remember. But from the look at the yarn in the photo it appears to be 4 ply. The Cascade yarn might be something different though.
