Perception vs Reality

Perception:
This is how I would like my creative space to be perceived :
Note the empty coffee mug and empty cookie plate...they are empty because this is not real.
Note how the yarn and current project coordinate with room; this is also not real.
Do not be fooled!!!

Want to see real???
Reality:
This is real.
And it's a stash-busting bonanza!
(Looks like some bust-stashing might be in order, as well.)
No pride, I tell ya', no pride!

Here's another peek at fantasy:
(Because this only lasted long enough to take the photos, and it must be documented. :-) )
I would love to hear about your reality.
Have a fantasy filled day!

  1. Your 'perception' photos look beautiful - it's a lovely room - but I absolutely love your 'reality' picture - it looks like such a great place to be. :)

    1. Thanks Debi! It is a great place to be....There's a permanent dent on the sofa. ;-)

  2. The "perception room" look cold like a museum, your "reality room" look cool :)
Mine is worse, believe me, with all the yarn, laptop, hooks, books....plus a 11 months old baby's toys and things...I think.... I am not gonna put pics :P

    Have a lovely time!

    1. Ahaha this made me LOL. Come on now...I want to see pics. ;-) Mine seriously gets worse than this and the neglect of the rest of the house... a future post perhaps. Oh well at least I am happy in my obsession and the NVO doesn't seem to mind.

  4. I love, love, love the reality of the room. I thought i was the only person who nested like that while crocheting! My laptop is always at my side, there are blankets and pillows all around, and it usually looks like yarn has exploded everywhere. It's nice knowing I'm not alone. ;)

  6. I loved this post! Very funny. And probably reflects so many of us out there (certainly me!). I seem to make a mess (yarn is a pretty mess, at least!) every time I settle in somewhere. But it's a happy place to be, that mess.... :)

  7. Enjoyed your post, and my reality looks pretty much like yours! Now I get up from the computer, go about my day and know that I am indeed......normal! Have a wonderful day!!

  8. I loved this! In my reality, everything would also be covered in dog hair; but other than that, it was pretty much spot-on. Be Blessed within your reality.

  9. This picture, where you are with your crochet makes me laugh !!
It's the same at home, today, with my sewing machine ;)
I love your home when it is in order, but I love too when you work because the house is like mine !!!!!!!

  10. I find this fascinating - your ideal space looks beautiful but it's the real-time space I want to join you in! Looks so like mine and so companionable! Funny how tidy is how tidy does but actually the charm is in the less tidy and more in the real and warm. Happy Hooking Astri! E x
PS why did I not think of Monet in the colours of my shawl? Now you've mentioned it yes, absolutely! - Giverney, les nymphéas, les couleurs de la cathédrale de Rouen... Tu as vraiment raison! E x

  12. I had to blink and look twice - I have the exact same sofa and ottoman in my living room! :) And yes, many times it also looks like my yarn stash exploded on/around/in it ;)
I love to see pictures of people's living spaces where you can actually see that someone lives there! I dislike spaces that are too clean. Thanks for sharing! :)
    xo,

  13. Nice to know Im not alone .....computer at arms length and yarn strewn all around me. I have a coffee mug too and add some food or an empty plate. Oh and I have my slippers on too. Today mine is cleaned up but give me a day or two and I will be stepping over piles of yarn to get out of my chair.

  14. Oh my goodness, I have enjoyed these comments so very much. I have replied to all of you via email unless you were a non-reply blogger. :-)

    Thank you for the giggles!

  15. I LOVE this post! I'm sitting here smiling :) My room doesn't even ever reach the 'perception state'! Laptop in front of me on a little table, yarn, embroidery silk, glass of water, mug of coffee, dogs, telephone, books and general clutter surround me here in my living room (nope, no separate craftroom in a 2 bedroom apt). Thanks so much for posting this! :)

  16. I Love your rocking chair cover!
If you add 6 cats and 2 birds to your 'reality' picture, it would be my living room *grin*

  17. Your posting brought a giggle to my smile today. I love your imagined and real creative space. You create magical projects that we all love. I enjoyed seeing it Creative space and I see your love bright colors. I even saw a embroidery pillow too. Neat. Hugs Judy

  18. This is the NVO...just so you ladies know, the reality photo was not staged. =) I walked in the house and said, "I have GOT to get a picture of this!" This "reality" reminds me of the Easter and Christmas seasons...we'd find Easter "grass" somewhere until Christmas, and then "tinsel" from the Christmas tree until Easter. Now I find yarn "snips" everywhere...year long. I should take a photo of the car while we are on a trip...I'm still finding "yarn snips" six months later!

  19. Ah, reality vs. fantasy... I'm stuffed into a spare bedroom right now while I wait to close on my condo, so I don't even have room for a fantasy. But, I can tell you that I have a dream for a crafting room in my new place, a dream that will be crushed by my boyfriend's brother coming to live with us. ;)

  20. Your reality looks just like mine! Yarn everywhere; just add a cat playing with any loose strand and a dog stealing balls of yarn off the couch and trying to eat them and you have my living room. But reality is definitely more fun and inviting than fantasy :-)

  21. Is it possible for creativity to flourish in a tidy environment? I seriously doubt it. All is as it should be in your house (and car). :)

P.S. If you get the bust-stashing nailed please let us into the secret.

  22. This has been such a fun post with all your comments. I suppose "A Bed of Yarn" vs "A Bed of Roses" is preferred among all of us. Thank you all for sharing your reality.

Sue - I knew you would catch the flipped statement. I can always count on you.

  23. I just love your real place, mine is always in place when I am not around, but, when I am working in it, there are yarns all over the place and several WIP too! I totoally enjoyed your photos, regards from Venezuela!
