Vintage Ripple WIP

A Springtime WIP with a projected completion date of...
 the Spring!  :-)
I purchased this pattern at Churchmouse Yarns & Teas.
Click here for the link; it's called the "Vintage Crocheted Throw & Afghan"
Lots of ends to weave.
A pile of similarly colored, yet different stitches of afghans,
brings joy to my heart like...
no other pile of anything. he, he ;-)

Wishing you a joyous heart!

(Blogger does not recognize tabs so the above is not properly aligned and it's making my eyes go all skuwhampus!)

Weave in ends.
Make 2 squares...then:
Join with single crochet in red.
Leave opening for washing ease and finish off with buttons .
Stuff with this inexpensive pillow from Walmart. Not the same shape but it works. :-)

Here are some "along the way" photos that might help:
This is what the back looks like on the R & W rows.
I could not figure out a work around...that's why this project ended up as a pillow instead of a blanket.
I'm thinking that there is no work around...this is sort of the way knitting turns out too, right?

Here's "Fana" with it's crocheted friends. :-)

Faux Fana Crochet

"Fana" is a  beloved Norwegian Sweater Style....
My latest crochet mania is to try and duplicate the look into a granny stripe pattern.

This is what I came up with so far:
I made this the size of a European bed pillow, the original intent was a blanket; however, I struggled with hiding the yarn that was carried over with color change...
the back does not look very good. :-)
The decision has not been made as to what it will be exactly, but if it were made into a pillow of sorts, the connecting yarn strands won't show as much.
Does anyone know how to hide these strands? I would love some guidance.

Here's an example of a knitted Fana sweater
WIP by my mother in Norway:
This is the look I have tried to duplicate.
Red Heart yarn in cherry and white, size "I" hook and the help of a granny stripe pattern from the lovely  Purl Bee website. Click here for Purl Bee's granny stripe directions.
I tried to figure out the color change and pattern by alternating rows of red and white and then alternating red and white with each row, but will keep looking for  instruction in order to someday make a blanket and/or post a pattern.
Have a bright day!

Viking Hat and Vimple Flag

Yesterday's post with the baby viking hat
got me started on a roll.

The Viking Hat
Since the Norsk osmosis is working it's magic so well on the NVO, it was only appropriate that he have a crocheted viking hat in the color of his two countries flags. ;-)
Here he is modeling it with the "Vimple Flag".
It's made with this yarn.
The pattern that was mentioned in yesterday's post was used as well.
Since the yarn was chunky and the hook was a "K" (an "I" for the horns), I followed the directions for the small size suspecting it would end up much larger. The NVO says it fits a little sung, so you-know-who can borrow it too. :-)

The Vimple Flag
Little Bug (#6) gave me the "Vimple Flag" for Christmas.
A "Vimple Flag" is a triangular version of the Norwegian flag.
Boy, have I ever wanted one for a very long time!
The flag came from the "Out of Scandinavia" website.
The following write-up came with the flag:
Tusen Takk
(a thousand thanks)
 Little Bug!!!

Viking Baby Hat for "E" #3

ARRIVAL
There are a lot of "arrivals" associated
 with my place of employment,
as that is the business we are in.

But, it's especially exciting when one of our own has an "arrival".
This is for newborn baby "E", a fourth generation Norwegian!
"E" was born Monday, January 9th, 2012.
How about that viking ship prop?
I purchased this pattern from Tara at the Easy Makes Me Happy Blog.
Worth every penny plus more!
I used the Bernat Alpaca blend in "peony" with a size "G" hook for the hat and "natural" with a size"F" for horns.
As per my modus operandi, I have made several of these, click here for the hat made for the NVO and click here for hats for other members of the famila.
(Oh and BTW this hat is a "chick magnet" for the gentlemen. I will be with the NVO and folks will swoon over the hat and him. I become completely invisible, which I really don't mind, but one day a gal completely ignored me and asked HIM if he made it. Go figure???)

A great big congratulations to "E3's" parents from
Apple Blossom Dreams!

Easy "E" #2

At my place of employment,
I have dubbed two of my "cubicle" mates :
E1 and E2.
Because working with them is so "easy" and both their names start with an "E", hehe.

This is for E2:
Just the other day "E2" mentioned the acquisition of a new "peacock" colored coat.
I'm hoping this will coordinate.
I adore her most amazing sense of style; she's one class act!

Again, it's from that flowering clematis scarf pattern that I can't stop making
at Mr. Micawber's Recipe for Happiness Blog.
(See what you have started, Sue;  I can't stop!)

This time I added five fringe flowers on each end.
I neglected to take a photo, of the yarn, before I made the scarf,
and this is all that was leftover.
One scarf = one skein, however. :-)
My favorite Alpaca blend yarn, this color is called "Aqua".
I am perplexed with the color name.
Perhaps, "Aqua at Night" would be a more appropriate?

What would you name this color?

Easy "E" #1

At my place of employment,
I have dubbed two of my "cubicle" mates:
E1 and E2.
Because working with them is so "easy" and both their names start with an "E", hehe.

This is for E1:
She LOVES purple...her hair was purple for a while and I adore her adventurous style!
It's from that flowering clematis scarf pattern that I can't stop making
at Mr. Micawber's Recipe for Happiness Blog.

This time I added three fringe flowers on each end.
This is the yarn that was used, but I upped to a "K" size hook.
This luscious purple yarn named "Baroque" is nothing short of appropriate for this pattern,
as the "pattern and tutorial writer" is a huge "Baroque" fan.
(How about that for a smooth segue?)

This crochet obsession is going to make me "baroque"
and I couldn't be happier or want it any other way! ;-)
(Tomorrow...stay tuned for E2)
