Crochet Pattern Shortened Version
Granny Heart
Rnd 1: With first color, work an MR secured with a tight stitch (ch 3, 3 tr, 3 dc, tr, 3 dc, 3 tr, ch 3, sl st) into the ring. Pull end to tighten ring. (20 sts)
Rnd 2: Continuing with same color, ch 3, starting in the first st (the tr from the previous round – not the chs), 3 sc in first st, 2 sc in next st, sc in the following 4 sts, (sc, ch 2, sc) at the bottom point (the tr from previous round), sc in the following 4 sts, 2 sc in next st, 3 sc in next st, ch 3, sl st into the ring, fasten off weave in ends. (29 sts)
Rnd 3: With a next color sl st join into ring at the dip, ch 3, 10 sc (1st one is the 1st st after the 3 chs from previous round), (sc, ch 2, sc) into “ch-2 sp” at bottom point, 10 sc, ch 3, sl st into ring next to the beginning sl st, fasten off, weave in ends by making a nice couple of “v’s” at the dip. (32 sts)
Rnd 4 : Sl st join next color in the second sc to the left of the left 3 chs from the dip, ch 2 (counts as first hdc), hdc in same st, *sk st, 2 hdc (further known as hdc clusters) in same st* repeat from * to * last sc at right of dip (before the 3 chs from the previous row), 2 hdc in the “ch-3 space” to the right of the dip, 2 hdc in the “ch-3 sp” to the left of the dip , sl st join or invisible join to the top of the beginning 2 chs, fasten off, weave in ends. (26 hdc including first 2 chs or 13 hdc clusters)
Rnd 5 : Sl st join next color in any space between two hdc clusters from previous round, ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in the same sp as join,*sk hdc cluster, 2 dc (further known as dc clusters) in sp between hdc clusters from previous round* repeat from * to * to beginning point, sl st join or invisible join to the top of the beginning 3 chs, fasten off, weave in ends. (26 dc including first 2 chs or 13 dc clusters)
Rnd 6 : Sl st join next color in any space between two dc clusters from previous round, ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in the same sp as join,* sk dc cluster, 2 dc in sp between dc clusters from previous round* repeat from * to * to beginning point, sl st join or invisible join to the top of the beginning 3 chs, fasten off, weave in ends. (26 dc including first 2 chs or 13 dc clusters)
Rnd 7: Sl st join next color in any st, ch2 (counts as 1st hdc), hdc in every st around including a hdc in the space between the dc clusters, sl st join or invisible join to the top of the beginning 2 chs, fasten off, weave in ends. (39 hdc)
Make two of these (further referred to as half spheres).
Join
While holding the two half spheres together with the hearts lined up, count 2 sts over from the left of the middle of the heart and whip st sew the two half spheres together until there is an opening to fit the ornament. Slip in ornament and continue to whip st to 2 sts to the right of the ornament, fasten off and weave in ends.
